Fall Fertilizer Application with SureFire Ag

Fall Fertilizer Application with SureFire AgMany of you are still focused on fall harvest, but it’s never too early to start planning your next move in farming. Experts agree, application of a fall anhydrous ammonia can be crucial for the Nitrogen necessary for your crops.

According to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Fall Nitrogen fertilizer application success can be enhanced using anhydrous ammonia and applying in late fall after soils cool to 50 degrees F and are trending cooler.  SureFire Ag’s Torpedo NH3 application system allows you to precisely apply anhydrous ammonia with unmatched capacity and distribution accuracy. The key features of this product include:

  • High capacity delivery
  • Stainless steel, fully assembled and pressure tested
  • 120 Degree slotted servo valve for precise & accurate control
  • Easily adjust the orifice on the vapor return to control excess vapor
  • Industry leading manifolds offer 1-3% row to row accuracy
  • Direct interface to most control platforms
  • Complete systems available from anhydrous tank to the ground.

Something else to consider when fall applying anhydrous is a nitrification inhibitor like NZone GL, N-Serve or any other nitrogen stabilizer that can further slow nitrification to nitrate.  Instead of adding the nitrogen stabilizer to the anhydrous tank, take control of what and when you are adding by using a Spartan injection pump.  The Spartan will allow you to inject the nitrogen stabilizer directly into the anhydrous flow before it splits to go to each row.  This method offers several benefits like:

  • Ability to variable rate your anhydrous and keep your nitrogen stabilizer product constant
  • Ability to vary the rate on your nitrogen stabilizer to match your anhydrous application
  • Ability to turn off nitrogen stabilizer for control strip
  • Keeps corrosive nitrogen stabilizers out of your anhydrous tanks to help combat rust issues

Applying anhydrous ammonia in the fall can have the benefits of spreading out the workload, and economic incentives relative to fertilizer costs.  This year when you go to the field, make sure you are equipped with a SureFire Torpedo NH3 system and a Spartan Direct Injection system to help take the headaches out of fall anhydrous application.
