Matt Micek, inside sales manager covering IL, IN and OH, may be one of the newer faces on our team, but he has already proven himself to be an asset. Matt joins us from a deep ag and teaching background that’s made him a key player at the SureFire offices.
We’ve asked Matt a few questions to help you get to know him. Here’s what he had to say:
What is your background?
I graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2002 and took my first job teaching Industrial Arts that same year. In that time, I taught 7-12 general technology courses along with CAD, welding, metal fabrication, plastics, woodworking, residential construction, plumbing, and electricity. I continued teaching for 12 years while also managing the family farm in Atwood. In 2016, I accepted my current position at SureFire Ag Systems in inside sales.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I’ve always been a helper by nature. I feel that my job here at SureFire is to help people be successful. I really enjoy the technical side of my job. Helping customers with system configurations, diagnostics and troubleshooting presents new challenges every day.
What do you wish people knew about you that they probably don’t?
I try to be transparent.
Do you have any hidden talents or something no one knows about you?
I like to dabble in a little bit of everything. I own a fiddle but am certainly no Charlie Daniels.
I’ll try about anything I can get past my nose.
What is the best advice you were ever given?
Not sure. Growing up, I was given a lot of advice. I just recently started listening.
What does service mean to you?
In my mind, we approach service at a whole new level. Service at SureFire is unrelenting determination to make every system function as it should.
What are you most passionate about?
I think we all have a choice to either coast through life, flying under the radar OR to live life, get involved, pay it forward and try to make an impact for the good. I prefer the latter.
Who is your favorite sports team?
The one my kids are playing on.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
My alarm clock – duh!
If it weren’t for our teammates such as Matt, the SureFire Ag team wouldn’t be what it is today. We’re all committed to creating innovative and valuable solutions for ag producers across the world and supporting our customers and friends throughout the entire process, Matt is no different. Stay tuned for more SureFire Spotlights on our blog and please don’t hesitate to contact us for any sales or service needs.
The Raven Rate Control Module (RCM) is an excellent rate control platform paired with the Pro700. The Raven RCM can control up to 5 products and connects to the Pro 700 over the ISOBUS system. SureFire systems are fully compatible with the RCM and SureFire supplies everything (including the RCM) for a complete system in one shipment.
Over the past ten plus years we have established ourselves as the leaders in precision application systems. Our business strategy is to develop strategic relationships with you the dealer and become an extension of your business. There is no one size fits all solution to fertilizer application. We lead you in asking the specific questions necessary to develop a complete solution to fit your customers exact needs. From simple single product applications to more complex multiple product or variable rate systems, our goal is to delight you and your customers. When there is so much at stake it only makes sense to partner with the experts.
SureFire Ag has added a one-day training to educate dealers and customers alike on this perfect match. This training will include:
- Introduction to the Raven RCM including SureFire’s own harnessing for this controller
- RCM compatibility with Ag Leader and Trimble displays your customers may use
- SureFire systems for application of liquids, including PumpRight hydraulically driven diaphragm pumps, Tower electric pump systems, Spartan Injection pumps and more.
- SureFire ISOBUS Sentinel for row flow monitoring directly on the Pro 700
- LiquiShift System for High Speed Planters, Prescription Applications or any other application requiring wide rate ranges

In a continued effort to better support our customers and meet their needs, the SureFire team has debuted a new phone system. We have upgraded to a cloud-based VoIP system which will offer our team and our customers many more features than before; most notably, it will efficiently handle the increased phone traffic coming in to the SureFire team.
As a result of the change, it’s important to note we are only using three main phone numbers for SureFire Ag and SureFire Electronics. If you have other, old numbers saved in your phones, please take a moment to update your contact list to ensure you’ll be able to reach us.
The SureFire Ag phone numbers are as follows:
The SureFire Electronics main office phone number is as follows:
Please note: all other SureFire Ag phone numbers have now been disabled. To reach the SureFire sales team, customer service, or for any other reason, calls must be placed to one of these three numbers.
The new phone system will allow our team advanced features to better connect and serve our customers. Team members can now check voicemail while out of the office and our organization can now more easily manage call volume.
If you have any questions or trouble contacting us via the phone system, please do not hesitate to contact us through our website. We look forward to continue serving you to the best of our ability.
In August 2017, the SureFire Ag team celebrates 10 years in business. What started as a small dream by Blaine and Erin Ginther, Josh and Lisa Wolters, and Matt Wolters has turned into a reality we’re all immensely proud of. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the loyal support of our customers, dealers, and industry partners – we thank you!
SureFire Ag began specializing in providing solutions for the control and application of liquid and dry fertilizer, seed, and chemical the SureFire way. With the support from our amazing customers, our products and services have reached customers across the United States and internationally.
We’ve expanded our offerings to include SureFire Electronics LLC, a subsidiary of SureFire Ag, to design and manufacture wiring harnesses for SureFire Ag Systems. Together, SureFire Ag and SureFire Electronics employs 36 full-time and 7 part-time employees. Blaine Ginther, Co-Founder and National Sales Manager explains why SureFire is proud to be an employee-owned company in a recent blog– which we believe is a huge benefit to our team and customers alike.
From the beginning, our core tenant has always been to find ways to help our customers farm smarter, not harder. From simple, standard, single-product liquid fertilizer application systems, to complex, custom-designed systems, SureFire Ag is committed to helping you farm the way you want. Josh Wolters, SureFire Co-Founder and General Manager, had this to say about the past 10 years:
Here at SureFire, our busy days don’t give us much time to sit back and reflect on the past 10 years. As I take a chance to look back this afternoon, there are a lot of different directions my mind can veer off in. There are great successes. I’ve met great people as co-workers, customers, vendors and other partners. There have been failures large and small along the way. Failure is never fun, but we have learned important lessons from our failures.
SureFire Ag released the Marksman, a custom fertigation and chemigation system, in 2016 with a couple of goals in mind.
First, we wanted to increase accuracy by allowing you to see how much was being applied. With the Marksman, you no longer have to draw a line on your tank, and come back in an hour to see if your tank level dropped the right amount, hoping you have applied the correct rate. Most fertigation pumps rely on a theoretical flow based on a pump stroke setting. The Marksman however is a systems approach with the same reliability SureFire is known for in the mobile application world. With the Marksman, you set it and forget it. Read more…
Now that your crops are planted and (hopefully) poppin’ up in rows, it’s time to prepare your SureFire Ag products for the off-season. In this blog, we’ll discuss winterization and off-season care of all SureFire Liquid Application Systems. Taking the time to complete these steps now will not only protect your systems, but it will also make next year’s planting season start-up go as smooth as possible.
To winterize your SureFire Ag liquid fertilizer application systems, please follow these key steps before you put the system in the shed for the off-season:
Marksman Precision Irrigation Injection from SureFire Ag is game changing technology for injecting fertilizer and chemicals in irrigation systems. Marksman provides growers, retailers, and consultants a line-up of new features not common in traditional fertigation and chemigation systems. Marksman increases accuracy, reduces labor, and provides accurate records of every application.
Around the country as farmers are beginning their planting and fertilizing for spring the question sometimes comes up regarding fluctuations in the application rates as they go across the field. This could be the result of a few things. This blog will walk you through the steps to identify the cause of the bounces in rates and how to correct things to ensure you’re applying uniform product across the field.
First, some bouncing in rates occurs all the time. Many controllers don’t show this on the screen because of a feature commonly known as Rate Smoothing. When Rate Smoothing is turned on, if the actual Applied Rate is within the Rate Smoothing % bounds, the controller shows the Applied Rate as being locked on to the Target Rate. Read more…
SureFire Ag is committed to supporting our customers and products through the entire partnership. Nitrogen management in agriculture is a hot topic today. Nitrogen is being discussed from practically every perspective:
- Lawsuits over runoff nitrogen in Iowa drinking water.
- OSHA rules (postponed for now) that would have a dramatic effect on the anhydrous ammonia market and availability.
- Additional knowledge from researchers, both public and private, on precisely how much and when crops need nitrogen.
- Precision ag services using a variety of new technology, from remote sensors on drones to super accurate weather, to generate prescription maps for nitrogen application.
- New and old nitrogen stabilizing products on the market that can provide farmers a positive return on investment while also benefiting the environment.
