Matt Micek, inside sales manager covering IL, IN and OH, may be one of the newer faces on our team, but he has already proven himself to be an asset. Matt joins us from a deep ag and teaching background that’s made him a key player at the SureFire offices.
We’ve asked Matt a few questions to help you get to know him. Here’s what he had to say:
What is your background?
I graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2002 and took my first job teaching Industrial Arts that same year. In that time, I taught 7-12 general technology courses along with CAD, welding, metal fabrication, plastics, woodworking, residential construction, plumbing, and electricity. I continued teaching for 12 years while also managing the family farm in Atwood. In 2016, I accepted my current position at SureFire Ag Systems in inside sales.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I’ve always been a helper by nature. I feel that my job here at SureFire is to help people be successful. I really enjoy the technical side of my job. Helping customers with system configurations, diagnostics and troubleshooting presents new challenges every day.
What do you wish people knew about you that they probably don’t?
I try to be transparent.
Do you have any hidden talents or something no one knows about you?
I like to dabble in a little bit of everything. I own a fiddle but am certainly no Charlie Daniels.
I’ll try about anything I can get past my nose.
What is the best advice you were ever given?
Not sure. Growing up, I was given a lot of advice. I just recently started listening.
What does service mean to you?
In my mind, we approach service at a whole new level. Service at SureFire is unrelenting determination to make every system function as it should.
What are you most passionate about?
I think we all have a choice to either coast through life, flying under the radar OR to live life, get involved, pay it forward and try to make an impact for the good. I prefer the latter.
Who is your favorite sports team?
The one my kids are playing on.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
My alarm clock – duh!

The Raven Rate Control Module (RCM) is an excellent rate control platform paired with the Pro700. The Raven RCM can control up to 5 products and connects to the Pro 700 over the ISOBUS system. Here at SureFire, our busy days don’t give us much time to sit back and reflect on the past 10 years. As I take a chance to look back this afternoon, there are a lot of different directions my mind can veer off in. There are great successes. I’ve met great people as co-workers, customers, vendors and other partners. There have been failures large and small along the way. Failure is never fun, but we have learned important lessons from our failures.
SureFire Ag released the Marksman, a custom fertigation and chemigation system, in 2016 with a couple of goals in mind.
First, we wanted to increase accuracy by allowing you to see how much was being applied. With the Marksman, you no longer have to draw a line on your tank, and come back in an hour to see if your tank level dropped the right amount, hoping you have applied the correct rate. Most fertigation pumps rely on a theoretical flow based on a pump stroke setting. To winterize your SureFire Ag liquid fertilizer application systems, please follow these key steps before you put the system in the shed for the off-season:
Marksman Precision Irrigation Injection from SureFire Ag is game changing technology for injecting fertilizer and chemicals in irrigation systems. Marksman provides growers, retailers, and consultants a line-up of new features not common in traditional fertigation and chemigation systems. Marksman increases accuracy, reduces labor, and provides accurate records of every application.
Around the country as farmers are beginning their planting and fertilizing for spring the question sometimes comes up regarding fluctuations in the application rates as they go across the field. This could be the result of a few things. This blog will walk you through the steps to identify the cause of the bounces in rates and how to correct things to ensure you’re applying uniform product across the field.
First, some bouncing in rates occurs all the time. Many controllers don’t show this on the screen because of a feature commonly known as Rate Smoothing. When Rate Smoothing is turned on, if the actual Applied Rate is within the Rate Smoothing % bounds, the controller shows the Applied Rate as being locked on to the Target Rate. Read more…
